Principal and Mediator

Jenni Spencer

Hi, I’m Jenni. I’m the Principal of Spencer Family Law & Mediation. I’ve been a lawyer for almost 16 years and have spent most of those in family law. During that time I have represented clients from all walks of life, in every type of family law matter there is. I have a particular interest in complex property matters, as spreadsheets are kind of ‘my thing’, but if it’s a parenting matter you need help with, rest assured we both want what’s best for your children.

I started Spencer Family Law & Mediation with my husband, Pete, in August 2024, driven by a shared desire to do things a bit differently. We will never take on more clients than we can handle, as the standard of service we expect of ourselves is high. Being available when you need us most is more important to us than hitting billable targets.

In addition to practicing as a family lawyer, I am also a qualified family dispute resolution practitioner (or mediator). I am a big believer in trying to resolve matters before parties have to even contemplate seeing the inside of a court room, and mediation is an excellent way of doing this. It’s also an excellent way of preserving relationships post-separation, which is particularly important if there are children involved.

Amy Walsh Senior Associate
Hi, I’m Amy. I’m the Senior Associate and represent Jenni and Pete’s firm in Brisbane City.

Originally from Tasmania, I moved to Brisbane to follow bigger opportunities in Family Law. I have spent a number of years working under Jenni in another firm, and am excited to be working with her once again. The dream team is back together. In my legal career so far, I have only ever practiced Family Law, and have a passion for uncovering the truth in property matters where all is not as it seems. My curiosity in complex property matters stems from undertaking a Bachelor of Business with a major in Accounting, on top of my Law degree. But please, don’t send me an Excel Spreadsheet. I’m not that boring.

I am looking forward to sinking my teeth into the matters that need more attention than your typical matter.

In my free time I enthusiastically (and tragically) support the Adelaide Crows in the AFL and the Dolphins in the NRL. Outside of the footy season you will find me with my team, O-Trivia Newton John, playing high stakes pub trivia.

Senior Paralegal

Natahnee Capper

Hi, I’m Natahnee, the Senior Paralegal at Spencer Family Law & Mediation, and I’m based on the Gold Coast.

I fell into the legal industry in 2020 after completing a Diploma of Legal Services with the hopes of becoming a police officer. I then fell in love with the legal industry, also in 2020. Clearly, it didn’t take long for my aspirations to change from police, and my passion for law stuck. Since I began my journey in the legal industry, I have also become a Qualified Justice of the Peace and completed a Diploma of Paralegal Services.

As passionate as I am about law and the support I provide to lawyers, I have developed a deep understanding of clients, each of their unique circumstances, and the stresses they experience.

I have been fortunate enough to work under Jenni in another firm in earlier years, and I am honoured to say that I am once again working with her. I count myself very lucky to be surrounded by such wonderful minds and hearts.

When I am not working, I find myself by the water – whether a run around the lake, a swim in the pool, or relaxing at the beach – enjoying the sun and salty skin.

Peter Spencer Practice Manager

Hi, I’m Pete, and I’m the Practice Manager and all things support here at Spencer Family Law & Mediation.

I’ve supported Jenni run family law firms in an informal capacity for a number of years now. I’ve been the sounding board, due to my experience running multiple small businesses most of my adult life.

I’ve been self-employed since the age of 18, when I started in the food industry. I moved from there into a mature age carpentry apprenticeship a few years later. I started working with athletes – in the biomechanical space – about 10 years ago, while competing internationally as a cyclist and with athletes with disabilities.

I know first hand how difficult the family law system can be, and the impact it can have on everyone involved. Our aim is to minimise that impact, as best we can, for the benefit of our clients and their children.

I take care of the operations and management of the business so Jenni can focus on our clients, and delivering the level of service – and care – that they deserve.

Admin & Accounts Manager

Narelle Mole

Hi, I’m Narelle, the Accounts Manager here at Spencer Family Law & Mediation.

Without giving away my age (and remember, it’s not polite to ask…), I’ve worked in administration and accounts for over 50 years. Most of that time has been spent in accounting firms, but when Jenni and Pete offered me an opportunity to give the legal industry a crack, I jumped at the chance to try my hand at something new.

Also – in case you haven’t noticed the striking similarities (in looks, intelligence AND wit) – I’m Jenni’s mum. When Jenni and Pete say SFLM is a family business, they really mean it, in every sense of the word.

When I’m not working, you’ll find me spending time with my family and (obsessively) supporting the greatest team to ever grace the NRL, my beloved Brisbane Broncos. On that note – if anyone can arrange an introduction, I can probably make a tax invoice or two disappear…*

*Formal approval of this proposal is yet to be received, but I remain hopeful.
